When we allow ourselves to engage fully-emotionally, physically, & spiritually & build an intimate life with another human being, we allow that person to have a great deal of influence on our perception of the world, our attitudes our beliefs, & our feelings. We form with that other person a commitment born of the openness, & love necessary for a healthy bond. As that bond is allowed to develop & deepen, it successfully does so through a reciprocal vulnerability. It's very much what being a couple is about. If we give our hearts to another, inevitably he holds a degree of power over our self-worth because, with vulnerability comes a certain lack of control.
